Giant White Ornamental Onion (Allium stipitatum Mount Everest) stands out with its large, pure white spherical flower clusters carried on tall, sturdy stems reaching 100 to 120 cm. Its flowers appear from May to June, adding height, brightness, and structure to garden beds while creating striking contrast with purple alliums and colourful perennials. Its blue-green foliage elegantly accompanies the emerging flower stems before naturally turning yellow. Extremely hardy to Zone 3, this perennial bulb reliably returns in Quebec gardens when its drainage requirements are met.

Plant the bulbs in fall at a depth of 15 to 20 cm, spacing them 25 to 30 cm apart. Mount Everest prefers full sun and light, fertile, perfectly drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water lightly after planting, then moderately during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Once established, it tolerates dry periods very well. A light application of compost in spring is generally sufficient. After flowering, wait until the foliage has turned completely yellow before cutting it back.

Ideal for large flower beds, contemporary gardens, prestigious plantings, and naturalistic landscapes, this allium creates an elegant focal point without making arrangements feel heavy. It pairs especially well with peonies, sage, catmint, coneflowers, and ornamental grasses, which highlight its spectacular white spheres. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial insects, helping support garden biodiversity. The flower clusters are also beautiful in fresh or dried bouquets and remain decorative for several months.
