HISTORIC PROVENANCE

The Floor Lamp Thomas is an homage to the intricate Chinese fretwork that first appeared in England in the early 18th century. By the midcentury, it became a hallmark of elegant furniture, as seen in Thomas Chippendales (British, 17181779) influential 1754 publication, Gentleman and Cabinet-Makers Director. The model for the pair of mahogany candlestands (175560) that inspired this lamp was featured in the first edition of Chippendales book.
