Akari Long Centipede Floor Lamp

Video Overview Inspired by 1951 Gifu Craft

The Akari Long Centipede Floor Lamp belongs to a family of paper light sculptures first conceived in 1951. The word Akari means light in Japanese it describes both illumination and the physical lightness of rice paper suspended on the slimmest of frames.

Crafted from handmade mulberry washi paper stretched over a black iron armature, the long centipede form rises 74.8 tall in a quiet, vertical rhythm an ideal presence for entryways, stairwell corners, or beside a reading chair where soft, enveloping light is most welcome.

About the washi paper: Each shade is folded and mounted by hand. Fine fiber texture, subtle tonal variation, and gentle surface irregularity are natural characteristics of genuine mulberry paper not manufacturing defects.
